Shifting the Field

“Everything in the marketing field is shifting to the digital side, so I went with it," says Jordan Moore ‘19.

Jordan originally transferred to Stevenson for baseball, but fell in love with the school and the Marketing program when he first visited. Alongside his three years on the baseball team, Jordan took advantage of multiple opportunities to hone his skills in the marketing field. On campus, he worked as a social media content creator for Stevenson’s Athletics department and helped manage the baseball team’s accounts. Additionally, Jordan interned as a marketing and social media assistant at Under Armour Factory Athletics and a content creator for Barstool Sports.

“The major gives you the opportunity to branch out and use that digital marketing experience in other fields. Because of my love of sports, I used social media in the journalism field to make a name for myself and cover sports,” says Jordan. “The Marketing program helped tremendously in modernizing journalism with social media aspects.”

Knowing that it’s crucial to constantly adapt in his field, Jordan credits where he is today to the strong foundation in digital marketing that the School of Business and Leadership provided him through his years at Stevenson—using what he learned to set himself apart in a competitive industry. Jordan was able to take the social media skills he learned, and the insights into how marketers and consumers think, and use them in his everyday life and in his career. “Whether it’s trying to get someone to read an article or buy something, [these are] very beneficial in today’s world,” says Jordan.

Jordan took to furthering his studies after graduating from Stevenson in 2019, and received his Master of Arts in Journalism from Emerson College in 2020. During that time, he worked part-time for Boston 25 News as a sports writer and producer covering Boston sports. Following his graduate studies, Jordan moved to St. Petersburg, Florida to work as a news and sports producer at Spectrum Bay News 9 covering Tampa Bay sports.

“Just recently, I took my dream job as a Social Media Engagement Coordinator at The Athletic,” Jordan says. Whether it’s the city life of Boston or the beaches of Tampa Bay, Jordan will always call Stevenson home. “It’s where I met my fiancé, where I met some of my best friends in life, where I had the opportunity to continue my baseball career and where the stepping stone of my career began. It was honestly the best years of my life,” says Jordan.

“[Stevenson is] where I met my fiancé, where I met some of my best friends in life, where I had the opportunity to continue my baseball career and where the stepping stone of my career began. It was honestly the best years of my life."
